Everyone knows that a person with high fashion which dresses in latest styles is known as a fashionista. Now that the economy is in a recession retailers are changing “fashionista” to “recessionista”. Marketers are changing collection names and adding “Recessionista to the front of it to attract consumers in this economic downturn. For example, Bourjos, is a middle priced makeup brand from France. They just recently sent a press release out promoting a line of the cheapest mascara and lip gloss as “the Rescessionista Collection”. By using this word retailer are want consumers to believe even though our economy is in recession consumers can still shop just at lower prices.
Some people are getting into this new recession idea that they are starting blogs. Ms.Hall heard about this new idea and started writing blogs about her latest cheap purchases which were chic. She wanted to show people that you don’t have to buy 5 digit costing purchases to look chic. Ms. Hall also believes there is no need to say I can’t afford or don’t want spend the money on it instead just say that you are a Rescessionista.
In addition to the word “ Recessionista” retailers are also adding recession to the chic. Recession chic is another term used by fashion writers to let consumers they can look chic in this recession. The phrase is catchy and is drawing consumers to continue to shop. Retailers and fashion world is already prepared if economy continues to worsen. They plan on using the word depressionista next in order to keep consumers shopping during this enduring time.
