The Heat is on in Miami


The biggest fashion show of the year is here again and as usual it more fabulous than years before. Last Saturday, 35 supermodels hit the runway at Fontainebleau Miami Beach Hotel to produce Victoria’s Secret annual fashion show The show was opened with Singer, Usher followed by the models such as Heidi Klum and Adriana Lima wearing angel wings. The theme of this year’s fashion show was return of glamour. Victoria’s Secret CEO, Sharen Turney stated, "Victoria's Secret is about sexy and the new sexy is glamorous for this season."
The runway sparkled with glitter and two silver palm trees. The models presented 68 outfits which included jeweler Martin Katz’s $5 million Black Diamond Fantasy Miracle Bra presented by super model Adriana Lima. This glamorous bra was full of white and black diamonds and rubies. Lima said she had always wanted to model a Miracle Bra.
This bra was not the only glamorous pieces to hit runway. Models also wore glamorous goddess pieces and bold colored pieces with geometric designs that were influenced from the 1920s. Some of the models even wore gilded bras that had Swarovski crystals attached. One of the most eye catching pieces was a body piece that curled around the model's body and was filled with gold sculpted feathers. Some of the models even accessorized by wearing metal sculpted laurel leaves around their necks.
Victoria’s Secret not only made this show glamorous with their pieces they also had one of the segments include professional dancers which were dressed in one-piece bathing suits. In addition, they also had some of the models interact with Usher during his introduction to the show. This is one show you will want to see with all its glamour. It will be broadcasted on CBS on Dec. 3 at 10 p.m.

Newest Beauty Spot in DC



Every one knows that cosmetics are a big part of the fashion industry and well liked by most girls. Cosmetics are worn by the models in New York’s fashion week to girls on the streets in DC. CVS Pharmacy has recently opened its market in a higher end of the cosmetic industry by releasing a higher-end beauty store, called Beauty 360 which is connected to CVS pharmacy . The first Beauty 360 opened its doors on Monday on Connecticut Avenue NW in Dupont Circle. The company to planning to open up to 500 stores in the future.
This store took some thought into making. It is prominently filled with white walls and is accented a sea foam color and brushed steel. The selves are filled with higher end cosmetics brands than CVS’ typical cosmetic assortment. Some of these brands are seen the network channel from Paula Dorf cosmetics to Fushion Beauty, Dr. Brandt, ModelCo, StriVectin, blinc cosmetics, Talika, Supersmile, Pop Beauty and Bloom Cosmetics. The selves are also shocked with fragrance with brands from P&G Prestige, Coty Inc. and Clarins.
They not only supply their customers with the higher end cosmetics and fragrances but the store also includes a full-service treatment room, which provides beauty services from manicures to makeup application. The leader of CVS’s beauty, Mary Lou Gardner, said, “This model provides a convenient destination where women can feel good for a little bit of money.” I believe this is going to be the next hot beauty spot for girls to get everything they need to look great.

Ressionista or Rescession Chic

Everyone knows that a person with high fashion which dresses in latest styles is known as a fashionista. Now that the economy is in a recession retailers are changing “fashionista” to “recessionista”. Marketers are changing collection names and adding “Recessionista to the front of it to attract consumers in this economic downturn. For example, Bourjos, is a middle priced makeup brand from France. They just recently sent a press release out promoting a line of the cheapest mascara and lip gloss as “the Rescessionista Collection”. By using this word retailer are want consumers to believe even though our economy is in recession consumers can still shop just at lower prices.
Some people are getting into this new recession idea that they are starting blogs. Ms.Hall heard about this new idea and started writing blogs about her latest cheap purchases which were chic. She wanted to show people that you don’t have to buy 5 digit costing purchases to look chic. Ms. Hall also believes there is no need to say I can’t afford or don’t want spend the money on it instead just say that you are a Rescessionista.
In addition to the word “ Recessionista” retailers are also adding recession to the chic. Recession chic is another term used by fashion writers to let consumers they can look chic in this recession. The phrase is catchy and is drawing consumers to continue to shop. Retailers and fashion world is already prepared if economy continues to worsen. They plan on using the word depressionista next in order to keep consumers shopping during this enduring time.
